Prepare a macOS Mojave USB Flash Drive for Desktop

macOS Mojave was just released in 24th September 2018. This is the major release by an Apple because the UI of Mojave is completely dark.

 

Requirement:

  • Intel based processor laptop/desktop
  • USB stick 8 GB or higher
  • A working mac or Hackintosh
  • Internet Connection

 

Preparation:

Download macOS Mojave<<<<

 

To get a working Mojave installer onto a USB flash drive it must first be formatted into a scheme that allows for an EFI Partition.

 

Step 1: 

Formatting the USB Drive.
You can format the usb flash drive using two way:

  • Disk Utility
  • Terminal

1.Disk Utility:
**Insert Flash Drive
**Open Disk Utility
**Select the Flash Drive on the left column
**Click Erase

Set the following settings:

  • Name: Your Choice
  • Format: Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
  • Scheme: GUID Partition Map

**Click Erase
**Click Done upon finish.

 

2.Terminal
**Insert Flash Drive
**Open Terminal
And Type Following Command

diskutil list

Then...

# repartition /dev/disk1 GPT, one partition
# EFI will be created automatically
# second partition, "install_osx", HFS+J, remainder
diskutil partitionDisk /dev/disk1 1 GPT HFS+J "install_osx" R

Note:- In my case,my sub flash drive is /dev/disk1, You can check for available drive using command diskutil list.

 

Step 2: 

Transferring the Mojave Installer to usb flash drive via terminal.
If you using Disk Utility method to Formatting the USB Drive,then using this command.
In Terminal....

First edit and replace Your USB Drive Name.

sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Mojave.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Your USB Drive Name --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Mojave.app --nointeraction

**If you using Terminal method to Formatting the USB Drive,then using this command.
In Terminal...

sudo "/Applications/Install macOS Mojave.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia" --volume  /Volumes/install_osx --nointeraction

After finishing the process.

In Terminal

sudo diskutil rename "Install macOS Mojave" install_osx

Step 3: 

Mount EFI Partition with EFI mounter

 

Step 4: 

Download Clover EFI Bootloader<<<<

 

Step 5:

Install Clover EFI Bootloader to usb flash drive.

  • Change Install Location and select your usb flash drive
  • select "Customize"
  • Check "Install for UEFI booting only", "Install Clover in the ESP" will automatically select
  • Check Themes
  • The defaults for Drivers64UEFI.efi are recommended

 

Step 6:

Moving Kext.....

You need to download the kext which matches with your system and copy the kext to USB EFI i.e. /EFI/EFI/Clover/Kexts/Other/

 

.....................................................Download universal EFI Here.....................................................

           Delete your EFI folder and use this.
